Top Android Apps This Fall

As fall approaches, so does our need to find some of the best apps available on Android to enhance our daily lives. There are many (perhaps too many) apps available on Google Play that apply to every aspect of our lives. With so many needs that need addressing, how can we pick out apps that suit our lifestyles the best?

We narrow them down, of course! Here, we’re going to take a look at some of the better selections on Google Play. This is our selection of the Top Android Apps This Fall.

The Top Android Apps This Fall

Fall is an active time for productivity, so we’re going to take a quick look at two apps that accomplish just that.

  • Flipboard keeps you updated with web news, social networking updates and photos—all in an easy to read layout that’s much like a magazine. It’s also easy to customize to your liking.
  • Pocket (Read It Later) helps keep things you want to read organized and saved for much later. Use this app to add and save articles and other web content – sans videos – to your Android device to read later.

If you need a communication related app that’s a bit easier to use – or more convenient – here’s two apps to try.

  • AContacts makes searching for your phone contacts much, much easier. Sort your contacts by favorites, alphabet and/or groups. You can also send email and SMS messages to groups, use T9 speed dials and much more.
  • DW Contacts & Phone lets you search by group, organization or title. It also lets you manage contact groups, send single or group emails/SMS messages, in addition to handily setting group ring tones and the like.

Don’t forget about enriching your lifestyle—here’s two apps for that.

  • A Word A Day shuffles a word a day for people who want to learn more about English language from the Merriam-Webster dictionary. It’s also a great way to expand your vocabulary!
  • CardioTrainer tracks and records your fitness activity, using its intrinsic GPS and pedometer functions. It also includes voice notifications, schedules, reminders, music integration and much more.

Sometimes, we might want to use our phones as a distraction from our mountain of work in the fall time. Sometimes, this involves playing a little poker on the go or a fun platformer—all under the guise of an app. Procrastinate using these two Android game apps!

  • X Construction Lite lets you build a bridge with enough supports to let a train safely cross the valley. Can you make a bridge strong enough to support the train – and itself – before the train starts to cross?
  • Alchemy Classic starts you with four basic elements – Fire, Earth, Air and Water – to combine into two elements. See what you can create from the 238 possible combinations!

Did you see an app you wanted to download for the upcoming fall season? We hope you did. Thanks for reading our look at the Top Android Apps This Fall!

Apple Products Cause Religious Reaction In Brain – Strange Findings

A recently screened BBC Documentary Secrets of the Superbrands, takes an in-depth look at how Apple fanboys’s perceive Apple products or Apple Imagery. They found that the brains of the Apple devout are stimulated in the same way religious people are stimulated by religious imagery.

The Documentary looks at why technology megabrands such as Apple are so popular and such a huge part of our lives ? Episode one explores the Success Apple as a tech mega-brand.

The presenter of the show contacted Alex brooks a self proclaimed Apple Worshiper. Brooks says he thinks about Apple 24hrs a day (Is that even possible?) . When scans taken from Brooks brain while viewing Apple imagery was compared to a scan from the Religious it showed a strange similarity. It showed  that Apple products are triggering the same areas of [Brooks'] brain as religious imagery triggers in a person of faith.

Take A closer look at this Image :

On the left a snapshot of Apple’s store in, Covent Garden bears a strange resemblance to church imagery right? ( Que the conspiracy theorists ). Inside the store you’ll find lots of arches and small alters on which Apple products are displayed and even stone floors, the Bishop of Buckingham so easily pointed out.

If Apple was a Religion then Steve Jobs would be the Messiah here to save us from Bill Gates who once was the probable devil and the Antichrist back when Windows was booming.

All that aside is it really so far fetched that with the huge R&D budgets the super tech brands have, that they aren’t spending some of it finding out how to make their brands gain a religious type of following?

If you find yourself bowing down to Steve Jobs when he appears on TV you know its time to worry, other than that your in the clear lol.

But seriously now …

Tell me what you like about Apple products and why you think they are successful.

Cell C Internet Problems – One Users shocking experience

Many people mail me daily regarding Cell C’s internet service, most of the emails are negative towards Cell C . Generally the complaints are about poor after sales service and the poor performance of the Cell C modems. The email below is a shocking experience that one of my readers are currently experiencing read through it before buying your Cell C data package.

Names and numbers are removed for privacy.

Hi Chadwin,
Last time i mailed you i had great results, i really hope you can help me again.

Last time i had problems with missing data which i got charged for, it seems the problem still persists.  My latest debit order that went off was R760, where its supposed to be R150.  I get charged 39 cents per meg after my 2gig is finished.  that means that(according to Cell C) i have gone 1.5 gig over my limit, which, once again, is impossible.  Either my data stick is faulty or the system is corrupt.  Today Cell C tells me(the Cell C window on my pc) that my bill is R527.35 and we have 1715mb left.  how does that work?  how can my bill be R527.35 AND i have 1715 mb left?  something is not right.

I went to my closest Cell C shop and asked them to re check my account and according to them they say im using so much data per month.  This is totally impossible, somewhere alot of data gets missing and im getting charged for it.  The biggest problem i have is that my cell c goes off on debit order.

Every month I budget for all my debit orders.  I make sure that i have a little bit extra in case i have gone over my 2gig limit but not R600 extra.  The problem is that i had other debit orders bouncing back because cell c over charged my by 4 times the normal amount.  and this is not my problem but the bank doesn’t care.  They say i must get a letter from cell c to say that it was their fault.

I feel that im being treated very unfairly.  im not saying that i do not go over my 2 gig limit and im happy to pay whatever i do go over but i monitor my usage very carefully and im definitely not using 1.5 gig over my limit.  since i got this cell c stick i have not been charged the right amount once.  and todays message of my bill being R527.35 and i still have 1715meg left just doesnt make sense.

Can you please help me? my cell number on the data stick is (removed security purposes)

Thank you so much.

Regards,
(Name Removed for security purposes)
(Number removed for security purposes)

Id like to know if this is an isolated experience. Have you had a good or bad experience with Cell C ? please mail me  at mobileoswars@gmail.com and let me know . If you have had a notable experience with any other network mail me let me tell your story. Your info will be kept secret guaranteed.

looking forward to hearing from you…

Blackberry goes more business – conferencing app launched

Blackberry has launched a new app helping the business types who often dial into conference calls.  The app will allow you to connect to any calls on your schedule.

The conference call app which is directly built into the native calendar of the phone now has fields for dial-in numbers and passcodes, with shortcuts to launch a call as soon as your appointment reminder pops up.

What happens when you lose connection during a call?  No need to worry RIM has got you covered.  A pop-up will allow you to reconnect with one touch of the screen.  Conference call organisers will have the option to allow only certain invitees to dial-in by sharing moderator dial-in codes with them.

The conferencing app is clearly a move by Blackberry to increase its business phone persona.  RIM being one of the brands which first introduced e-mail on mobile phones has had some difficulting in maintaining its business appeal due to many of the features that made it popular being widely available on almost every mobile phone today.

Its still not clear whether RIM would include the app and its features in all its phones, some believe they would only inlcude it in their high end phones which are usually bought by businessfolk who spend lots of time on the phone.

CELL C SLOWED DOWN THE INTERNET!

Many people who bought the Cell C speed-stick are now complaining of very slow speeds (see here for one such complaint). Many of those who traded there low speed adsl lines from telkom fro Cell C’s “super fast” internet are now frustrated at the amazing “super slow” speeds they are actually receiving.

The Blame Game:

Who is to blame tho is it Cell C for not advertising sufficiently, that their speeds are not constant and best results can be achieved with in the coverage area ? The  South African Advertising Bureau seems to be okay with the ads tho . So then maybe its the consumer’s fault for not educating themselves with the product or is technology letting us down?

The Result :

Many more people have slow internet but at the same time many more South Africans have access to the internet for the first time.

What Do you think ? did you have the same experience, are you planing on buying? let me know drop your comment below, maybe even help others decide…

DVB-H – Why you want a cellphone that has this feature

So you got the latest feature packed phone, well sadly due to technology advancements your features will be old school in a matter of months. As if cellphone already don’t have enough features manufacturers are soon going to add one more its called DVB – H.

What is DVB-H ? Wikipedia  says its :

DVB-H (Digital Video BroadcastingHandheld) is one of three prevalent mobile TV formats. It is a technical specification for bringing broadcast services to mobile handsets. DVB-H was formally adopted as ETSIstandard EN 302 304 in November 2004. The DVB-H specification (EN 302 304) can be downloaded from the official DVB-H website.[1] From March 2008, DVB-H is officially endorsed by the European Union as the “preferred technology for terrestrial mobile broadcasting”.[2][3][4][5] The major competitors of this technology are Qualcomm‘s MediaFLO system, the 3G cellular system based MBMS mobile-TV standard, and theATSC M/H format in the U.S. DVB-SH (Satellite to Handhelds) now and DVB-NGH (Next Generation Handheld) in the future are possible enhancements to DVB-H, providing improved spectral efficiency and better modulation flexibility.

In the coming years we will see more devices adding the DVB-H feature DVB-H is currently the leading standard for mobile tv.

Nokia has DVB-H handsets – basically its 7710 device with an add-on radio module. Integrated DVB-H devices are due this year. Samsung have prototypes and are expected to follow suit and soon if not all other manufactures will, infact some already have.

Here Are Some DVB-H enabled Phones:

Write a call to action that makes readers do what you want!

speed

How to write a perfectly crafted call to action that creates your desired affect on the reader. You’ve spent a good amount of time writing articles that stand out yet people end up leaving your blog, never signing-up or commenting on your post. You need to learn how to get your visitors to do what you want…

Learn How To write a Call to action:

It takes time to perfect writing a better post and it’s the same with writing an effective call to action.

Step 1  Say what you mean : Tell your visitor Exactly what you want of them. but dress it up with creativity without being to clever. For Example instead of writing ” Buy my E-book” write “What increased traffic to your blog? buy my e-book”.

Step 2 Create a sense of urgency : Make your call to action seem urgent by adding phrases like “for a limited time”, “Act Now!” or “Don’t Miss !. This creates the sense that if you don’t act now you’ll loose big-time.

Step 3 State the benefits : Give the reader reasons to “Act Now!” for example ” Sign-Up and stand a chance to win a Ipod” Keep it short though, a call to action should be a short powerful piece of convincing text.

BBM coming to the iPhone

BBM may be coming to an iPhone near you. Word on the street (BGR) is that BBM (Blackberry Messenger) will soon have a place inside the Apple world. Apparently, RIM is looking to develop a BBM app for the iPhone, opening the door to even more users. While some iPhone owners may not even know what BBM is, those that do are often envious of its capabilities.

BBM is a powerful and unique messaging service that allows Blackberry users to communicate with each other no matter what carrier they are on, sending texts, videos and pictures. As well, with its delivery ability to see if a message has been opened, BBM is useful tool for any user.

The report concerning BBM and it’s availability to the iPhone also suggests that the app itself might have limited features. This, of course, would be a smart marketing move that would entice the users of this app to reconsider their Apple identity and shift towards a Blackberry.

Will RIM’s strategy work, or is this the beginning of the end for Blackberry exclusivity?
